Sponsorship Strategy Tool
What are sponsors? Who are sponsors? What does the leader believe about the change, and why we must do this?
Every change initiative and project must have a sponsor in the organization. A sponsor is a leader who is accountable for the project and will “own” the business results.
A sponsorship plan identifies the sponsors (sometimes we have more than one sponsor) who are accountable for and committed to the change, and the activities needed to effectively lead the change. Kickoff, milestone recognition, and regular updates are just some of the activities that sponsors must engage in to promote and support the change.
The sponsorship strategy should include the sponsor’s role at the kickoff. The sponsor should be able to share a short, concise message about the benefits of the change. You may also want to have a theme of some type to engage the team and stakeholders.
